Brakes - The Saga....

While doing the rear brake maintenance I decided to sort the front out too. On inspection the front slave cylinders were rusted solid. I ordered some re-sleeved cylinders with stainless stell inserts and got them fitted.

I have been told that bleeding the brakes can be challenging in the Goddess and they were proved right! I ended up pressure bleeding from the Master Cylinder by 'engineering' a cap from an old cutting disc, some plumbing parts and a rubber washer.

When reassembling you have to 'set' the brake pads by applying firm pressure to the pedal to set the brakes against the drum in the right location. I pressed hard and the there was a bang! and the pedal went all the way to the floor.

After the fault finding, the master cylinder lining had disintegrated! One of the holes has almost gone all the way through the wall.

This unfortunately introduced a metal crumb into the brake lines which compromised the seals on the front cylinders with some huge leaks.... I had to start from scratch!

In order to flush out the lines I used some brake cleaner and an air line to flush them through - I went through 4 full bottles and did front and back lines thoroughly.

Should get this all sorted soon, we have shows coming up and without brakes we are going nowhere!
